Role purpose (position scope):

This position is located in Prescott, AZ and is not available for remote working.  This position is responsible for providing technical expertise as a team leader/ member on a variety of projects and programs.  S/he is a technical consultant for management.  The person uses expert knowledge of engineering discipline, standards, processes, and tools in order to complete programs/projects. S/he is used as a point of contact for external customers for overall product status, Canyon Aeroconnect standards, and as a technical interface. This person develops and defines engineering processes, leads proposals to address future business opportunities, value engineering and program/process changes and is recognized as a technical authority within Canyon Aeroconnect and is beginning to be seen as an authority within the industry.  Principal Engineers act as a mentor to lower level Engineers and are proactive in finding issues and leading teams to close those issue and proactive in leading and implementing objectives for the engineering organization and the division.

The individual must be able to meet all minimum standards within 90 days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops technical program planning, system requirements, system integration, verification & validation, maintains cost and risk, and evaluates fleet supportability and effectiveness for the larger integrated system.
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of system: concept, design, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and factory integration.
  • Ensures customer or product requirements into the system solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, safety analysis, FMEA, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware or software specifications.
  • Provides measurable input into new products, processes, standards or operational plans in support of the organization’s business strategies, with some impact on business unit/function overall results.
  • Responsible for planning and executing project subtasks in order to meet customer specifications (designing, testing, etc.).
  • Leads teams to ensure program compliance.
  • Leads technical development activities and coordinates cross-functionally with other areas of the business.
  • Convince external parties that have a desire to reach agreement to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Acts as principal interface with customers for technology development. Influences customer requirements and specification.
  • Presents proposals to high level of management.
  • Mentors teams and junior engineers.
  • Identify problems and significantly improve, change or adapt existing methods and techniques drawing from personal experiences and feedback.
  • Conceptualizes new technologies, products and processes across multiple disciplines. Leads teams (internal or external to the business) in order to identify unique and innovative approaches to key methodologies.
  • Comply and uphold Canyon Aeroconnect SHE policies and standards.

  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 12-20 years of applicable experience

Physical Demands:

  • Tasks involve light physical effort in sedentary to light work; may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects or materials (5 – 10 lbs)
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station
